On July 20th, the employees of SIMEA plant in Vienna protested against the planned closure of the Large Drives production in Vienna and the projected relocation of the jobs to China.

SIMEA-employees vote for the resolution.

The employees unanimously agreed on a resolution (see Download), in which they expressed their complete lack of understanding for the management’s decision. They especially pointed at the high profitability of the plant at Vienna, which is focused on customer-specific solutions.

The Central Works Council of Siemens Austria and the Austrian unions will try to take influence on the management to change the decision and save as many jobs as possible in Vienna.

They also expressed their solidarity with the employees at Nürnberg, Ruhstorf, Bad Neustadt, Erlangen and Berlin in Germany, which are also concerned by the plans of the management to cut and relocate jobs in Europe. On the same day, July 20th, IG Metall has organized protests in Germany at the concerned plants against the managment’s plans (see related news).
